MOHAMMAD ZAHER AZIMI
Afghanistan Ministry of Defense Spokesman
Mr .Zaher Azimi graduated from the Afghan Army, Infantry Parachute School as a 2nd lieutenant in 1978. He then joined the Mujaheedin in 1979 and was the leader of the Islamic Movement of Afghanistan in the southwest region of Afghanistan. During this period of leadership he performed resistance activities in the area of Herat.
In 1992 and after the Mujaheedin victory,Mr.Azimi was promoted to the rank of Major General and was assigned as the herat province recruiting commander, spokesman, and garrison commander of the district of Shindand,Herat province.
During the fight against Taliban in 1994 and after the 2nd victory of Mujaheedin, was again assigned as recruiting commander of Herat Province.
In 2003, Mr.Azimi was selected as the Chief of the Parliamentary, Social Relations and Public Affairs and is the spokesman and cultural advisor for the Afghanistan Ministry of Defense.
He is a member and one of the founders of the Society and Professionals Committee of Herat and a member of the leadership board of the Herat Literature Association.
Mr. Azimi is a researcher and author and has written eight books. Some of the titles of his books are : Attack of the East and the Politics of the West; How the Taliban Came to Afghanistan ; Afghanistan and the Roots of Pain ; Herat and the Point of Mercy ( 2 editions ) ; Hoot ( December ) the Month of Brightness of Faith ; and Thought and Memories 1980 - 1995 in Afghanistan are his Printed Books.
Mr. Azimi is a graduate of Afghanistan’s University of Literature.
