Acting Minister of Defense meets Human Rights Watch Women’s Affairs Director

Lt. Gen Tariq Shah Bahrami met with Mrs. Liza Garint Holtiz, The Human Rights Watch Women’s Affairs Director for Afghanistan on Oct. 18, 2017.

 Mrs. Liza Garint Holtiz expressed her concern over decrease in number of girls admitted to schools than previous years and said: “we came here to find out about the problems and find solutions for these problems”.

 In the meeting, Lt. Gen Tariq Shah Bahrami briefed the visiting dignitary about the security development in Afghanistan. He said the security has improved in comparison to previous years.

 While letting her know about the main causes of civilian casualties, Acting Minister of Defense said: “the intensity of war and civilians being intentionally targeted by insurgents are the main reasons that parents do not let their children, especially girls, attend schools”.

 Acting Minister of Defense reaffirmed the commitment of the National Defense Ministry for the protection civilian lives and said that all security forces have been instructed not to use public properties such as schools, Hospitals and mosques during military operations.
